Lake Brunner
The main township
is Moana, situated on the northern end of the Lake.
The TranzAlpine train stops at
Moana where passengers can disembark for a 2.40mins stopover to
enjoy either a lake cruise, trout fishing, visiting the pottery,
lunch time dining or enjoying one of the many walks around the
village. Stay a night or two and enjoy all that the surrounding
area has to offer.
The Lake Brunner area is a holiday
destination with accommodation that will suit all budgets and
tastes. There is a service centre for motoring needs and grocery
supplies, a hotel and a fully licensed cafe, as well as a variety
of land and water based activities.
The lake and surrounding rivers
and streams offer some of the finest brown trout fishing in the
South Island. Fly fishing, trolling and spinning are available
all year round on the lake and some rivers. Fishing guides, licence's,
tackle and tackle hire are also locally available.
The area features abundant bird
life, and a variety of wetland and rainforest ecosystems.
There are many walks for all levels
of fitness from 10 minutes to 6 hours.
Moana is 37 kilometres inland
from Greymouth and serviced daily by both the TranzAlpine train
and a daily shuttle bus service en route to Greymouth/Christchurch.
The lake and township are easily accessible from either Arthur's
Pass or Lewis Pass, making the area an ideal base camp for a unique
West Coast holiday.
